Great post Stone.  I have had a few cigars like that.  What happens is the beetle gets into them before they freeze and once they freeze they die before getting shipped out.  I have not had a live one yet  thefinger

Just now seeing this thread.  I didn't realize those things got so big.  That's nuts.

Hey Pote....  Actually, funny enough I just had this conversation a few days ago with the owner of my local B&M.  Specifically we talked about the Padrons.  The owner was a long time smoker or the X000 series of Padron Cigars.  I've smoked them in the past as well.  We have both determined that something is different about the flavor profile.  Possibly even slightly more fragrant than before.  I notice that more on the pre-light.  Anyhow, I haven't noticed this on any of the anniversary lines of there cigars, and I've probably smoked more of that cigar than anyone I know.

I'm thinking as Padron's entry level cigar, maybe they tried to slightly tweek the blend.

Hey Mr. P how goes it?

That's funny you had the same discussion. I haven't really been going deep on the anni's like I used to, but the last one I had was just like the first one.

So no-one's been smoking in over 4 months huh?  That's okay....this weekend I had an Anejo, Opus X Robusto, Gurhka Titan, and a Perdomo ESV 91 robusto.  Then I decided to get rid of some Gurhka Warriors that I've had in the bottom of my humidor for a year.  Thankfully their is only one left.

I had this discussion on Sunday with a few guys about the quality of cigars declining over the years, Padron in particular. I've always been a HUGE supporter of this cigar and all their lines. Over the course of a few years I've noticed that the quality, flavor-wise has declined steady. The quality in terms of construction has remained consistent though.

I was wondering what would be the major cause of this, if in particular, is it the quality of the crop? Change in structure of the business? Change in rollers? I know there could be a lot of different factors that could lead to this, so I guess I'm asking if anyone knows why this happened?

I wonder if they've over-farmed their fields. They've been in the business long enough for that to have happened. dunno

I'm not the only one that has noticed this decline in quality...I've noticed it since I've went back to them and just recently my brother said the same thing and his father in law too...and coming to think of it 2 guys at the B&M said the same thing too a few months back.

Could be change of crop, could be my taste changing...but for other people to notice...its got to be the former dunno

i was going to say the same about your tastes changing.  Mine change all the time, for a few months i will be loving a certain cigar, then starting wanting something different

Honestly, I was in the same boat for a while 'Pote, but I had a box of "old" Padrons in the humi that I could compare to, so I'm pretty sure that in my case at least it's my taste that changed, not the cigars. I've come to the conclusion that while they are excellently constructed and very pleasantly flavored cigars, they are fairly one-dimensional cigars.
